How much one learns from his teacher depends a great deal on the guidance his teacher provides him. A good teacher, therefore, should be a role model for his students in moral

integrity as well as scholarship, and his students should strive to reach high levels through accumulating knowledge and attaining moral integrity. In this manner learning is a part of the way to human perfection.

(This is a translation of H.H. Dorje Chang Buddha III Wan Ko Yeshe Norbu’s philosophical sayings about worldly matters originally written in Chinese.)

Below is not an official translation, just for reference.

On the road of learning, the amount of knowledge gained more and less, deep and shallow, right and wrong are all related to the teacher's deep education. They are all formed by the role of the teacher's guidance. As a teacher, you are a role model for others, and you have to set an example anytime and anywhere. Therefore, you must strengthen your self-cultivation, possess noble moral sentiment and profound knowledge, and be a role model for students. Students have to forge ahead, study hard, master all knowledge, and constantly improve their moral character. Only in this way can they have profound knowledge and reach the realm of profound and impeccable. This is the immutable essence and true meaning of learning in the way of being human.
